As the priest does not reside nearby, most weekends there are just Readers´ Services, with the Saturday Vespers normally at about 6pm British Isles (and mainland Portugal and Madeiran) time, except when there is a Liturgy. On weekends when there is a liturgy, the Saturday Vespers is generally at about 5pm. On week days when there is a Vespers it is generally at about 7pm. When there is a Reader´s Service on Sunday morning it generally starts at about 10.30am. When there´s a liturgy, because of the long distance the priest has to travel, it generally starts at about 9am. Reception is generally good, though there can be occasional problems. It should be noted that this transmission is not available if Reader James Gross is away for any reason, if there is no one else in the group present with a smartphone to transmit. Generally, Matthew then substitutes for Reader James Gross. But, he is normally only able to do so for the services on Sunday morning.

Please note that Reader James Gross tends to be away in Serbia, most years, from roughly the beginning to the middle of July until the beginning of September, civil calendar, leaving Matthew to cover for this period.

St. Joseph´s has more than one priest serving most weekends and so always has a full Liturgy. It also sometimes has additional services which St. Michael´s does not have. Live services are on Western Pacific Time and the Livestream will say roughly when they are likely to be streamed live, with the option of receiving a notification. No subtitle option is available when it is being livestreamed, though it is sometimes available on playback after it has been livestreamed, including subtitle options in many languages. Note as well that the original is in English, my native language. My Apple Mac, on which I had Word 2019, with its translation function, is broken and I have been told it will take about a month to repair. This means that I will have to experiment with online translation, or simply translate manually. This will only be into European Portuguese, as there is one member of our church, who has lived in Portugal for 20 years who speaks and reads Portuguese, but not English. I will therefore not be doing an automatic translation into Romanian

Today is 8 days before the beginning of Great Lent, We have the Gospel of the Last Judgment, the most terrifying of all of the Gospel readings [Matthew 25:31-46].

At the Final Judgment, there will be two categories, the sheep, on the right side, the faithful who will be saved, going to heaven and to eternal joy. And the goats, those who go to hell, the eternal fire.

Many believe that this is barbaric.

It is not. All humans want justice. God is just. This is his justice, and it will be impossible to argue that it is not. And his just decision can not be changed.

So, we must prepare for this.

It is a first absolute pre-condition to be selected to be among the saved sheep who go to heavenly bliss, to be in the only true faith, which is the [True] Orthodox faith. We are in it. It is tempting to reject it. We must resist this temptation.

The second condition is that we must have good works, and above all, we must have mercy.

All of us have many bad deeds, but we must confess our sins to priests, and God will forgive the sins we confess.

What will be the most key criterion for being numbered amongst the saved sheep?

Being merciful. Have we fed the hungry? Have we clothed the naked. Mercy is an absolutely essential good work. Have we fed the hungry, and clothed the naked? Mercy is most important. Here lies our heart. We need to pray. Good works can blot out our bad deeds, provided we confess.

If we pray for their salvation, this is an act of mercy. If we are merciful our sins will be wiped out, and we will be granted salvation.

É uma primeira condição absoluta para ser selecionado para estar entre as ovelhas salvas que vão para a felicidade celestial, estar na única fé verdadeira, que é a [Verdadeira] fé ortodoxa. Nós estamos nela. É tentador rejeitá-la. Temos de resistir a essa tentação.

A segunda condição é que devemos ter boas obras e, acima de tudo, devemos ter misericórdia.

Todos nós temos muitas más ações, mas devemos confessar os nossos pecados aos sacerdotes, e Deus perdoará os pecados que confessarmos.

Qual será o critério mais importante para ser contado entre as ovelhas salvas?
