As the priest does not reside nearby, most weekends there are just Readers´ Services, with the Saturday Vespers normally at about 6pm British Isles (and mainland Portugal and Madeiran) time, except when there is a Liturgy. On weekends when there is a liturgy, the Saturday Vespers is generally at about 5pm. On week days when there is a Vespers it is generally at about 7pm. When there is a Reader´s Service on Sunday morning it generally starts at about 10.30am. When there´s a liturgy, because of the long distance the priest has to travel, it generally starts at about 9am. Reception is generally good, though there can be occasional problems. It should be noted that this transmission is not available if Reader James Gross is away for any reason, if there is no one else in the group present with a smartphone to transmit. Generally, Matthew then substitutes for Reader James Gross. But, he is normally only able to do so for the services on Sunday morning.

Please note that Reader James Gross tends to be away in Serbia, most years, from roughly the beginning to the middle of July until the beginning of September, civil calendar, leaving Matthew to cover for this period.

However, another parish, St. Joseph´s of Petrograd, Oregon, USA (on Pacific Time, livestreams on YouTube and these livestream videos are then made available for several weeks). This is via a private link:

St. Joseph´s has more than one priest serving most weekends and so always has a full Liturgy. It also sometimes has additional services which St. Michael´s does not have. Live services are on Western Pacific Time and the Livestream will say roughly when they are likely to be streamed live, with the option of receiving a notification. No subtitle option is available when it is being livestreamed, though it is sometimes available on playback after it has been livestreamed, including subtitle options in many languages. Note as well that the original is in English, my native language. My Apple Mac,on which I had Word 2019, with its translation function, is broken and I have been told it will take about a month to repair. This means that I will have to experiment with online translation, or simply translate manually. This will only be into European Portuguese, as there is one member of our church, who has lived in Portugal for 20 years who speaks and reads Portuguese, but not English. I will therefore not be doing an automatic translation into Romanian.

This is the Sunday of the week of the Holy Forefathers.

There were five [foundational] covenants that God made with man as part of the old covenant of the Old Testament. These were made with Noah, Abraham, Moses and David. [The new Covenant was made by Jesus himself].

There were many prophecies about Jesus Christ

It is also the Feast of the Prophet Haggai, who also had prophecies, including about Christ´s coming, all of which have been fulfilled.

We live perhaps within days, or within a few years, of the fulfilment of prophecies. We must believe in them.

Our salvation is by faith and hope in the invisible.

Faith is the belief in what can´t be seen.

One of the reasons we come here every Sunday is this faith, including belief in these prophecies.

St. Paul says things will become much worse towards the end of time. So we accept and welcome this. We also welcome the fulfilment of the more joyful prophecies.

Christ, in your patience, save our souls.

Let us remember all the Forefathers who believe Christ was going to come.

São Paulo diz que as coisas vão piorar muito no fim dos tempos. Por isso, aceitamos e congratulamo-nos com isso. Saudamos também o cumprimento das profecias mais alegres.

Commemorated on the Sunday that falls between the 11th and 17th of December

On this Sunday, in preparation of the Nativity of our Lord, we remember the Patriarch Abraham and his lineage, ancestors of Christ. The story of Abraham and his faithfulness should be read in the Book of Genesis.
"Through the connection of the holy Ancestors and Patriarchs, Our Saviour Jesus Christ is Himself also, in a way, the fruit of the faith of Abraham. So, when God makes his voice known to each of us while we are still in the strange land of the passions and worldly vanities, we must like Abraham unhesitatingly leave all that is ours, and follow the divine calling with faith until we reach the Promised Land where, in our turn, we shall be able to give birth spiritually to Christ For, planted in us by faith and Baptism, He has to grow in us through the virtues so as to shine in the light of contemplation. We descendants of Abraham, 'children of the promise' as Isaac was, having become 'sons of God' through the gift of the Holy Spirit, out therefore to see Christ form in us... Let us then for our part become forebears of Christ and continue steadfast in the faith, so that we may keep the feast of his Nativity, saying: It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me." Neste domingo, em preparação para o Natal de nosso Senhor, lembramos o Patriarca Abraão e sua linhagem, ancestrais de Cristo. A história de Abraão e sua fidelidade deve ser lida no Livro de Génesis.
"Através da conexão dos santos Ancestros e Patriarcas, Nosso Salvador Jesus Cristo é Ele mesmo, de certa forma, o fruto da fé de Abraão. [The Holy Prophet Haggai

The Holy Prophet Haggai was the tenth of the Twelve Minor Prophets. He was of the Tribe of Levi and he prophesied during the times of the Persian emperor Darius Hystaspis (prior to 500 B.C.). Upon the return of the Jews from the Babylonian Captivity, he persuaded the people to build the Second Temple at Jerusalem, and he proclaimed that the Messiah would appear in this Temple in the last times.

It is believed that Haggai was buried with the priests at Jerusalem, since he was descended from Aaron.

O Santo Profeta Ageu
O Santo Profeta Ageu foi o décimo dos Doze Profetas Menores. Ele era da Tribo de Levi e profetizou durante os tempos do imperador persa Dario Hystaspis (antes de 500 a.C.). Com o retorno dos judeus do Cativeiro Babilónico, ele persuadiu o povo a construir o Segundo Templo em Jerusalém, e proclamou que o Messias apareceria neste Templo nos últimos tempos.

[Also, the Blessed Empress Theophano (aka Theophania):

St Theophano the Empress

The Holy Empress Theophano was the first wife of Emperor Leo VI the Wise (886-911). She and Leo were locked up in prison for three years, because Leo was falsely accused of intending to assassinate his father, Emperor Basil the Macedonian. After receiving her freedom, she spent her life in prayer and fasting, earnestly struggling for her salvation.

Living in the world, she renounced everything worldly. She was a benefactor to the poor, and was generous toward monasteries. She was a true mother to her subjects, caring for widows and orphans, and consoling the sorrowful. St Theophano died in 893 or 894.

Even before her death her husband started to build a church, intending to dedicate it to Theophano, but she forbade him to do so. It was this emperor who decreed that the Sunday after Pentecost be dedicated to All Saints. Believing that his wife was one of the righteous, he knew that she would also be honored whenever the Feast of All Saints was celebrated.

Her holy relics are preserved in Constantinople.

A Santa Imperatriz Teófano foi a primeira esposa do Imperador Leão VI, o Sábio (886-911). Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened. 22 Yes, and certain women of our company, who arrived at the tomb early, astonished us. 23 When they did not find His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive. 24 And certain of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but Him they did not see. 25 Then He said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? 27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. 28 Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and He indicated that He would have gone farther. 29 But they constrained Him, saying, "Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent." And He went in to stay with them. 30 Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight. 32 And they said to one another, "Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?" 33 So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, "The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!" 35 And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread.

Mas Pedro levantou-se e correu até o túmulo; e, inclinando-se, viu os lençóis de linho postos à parte; e foi embora, admirando-se do que havia acontecido.

Eis que, naquele mesmo dia, dois deles estavam viajando para uma aldeia chamada Emaús, que ficava a sete milhas de Jerusalém.

E conversavam entre si sobre todas essas coisas que haviam acontecido.

Enquanto conversavam e discutiam, Jesus mesmo se aproximou e foi com eles.

Mas os olhos deles estavam impedidos, de modo que não o reconheceram.

E Ele lhes disse: "Que tipo de conversa é esta que tendes um com o outro enquanto andais e estais tristes?"

Então, um chamado Cleopas respondeu e disse-lhe: "És tu o único forasteiro em Jerusalém, e não sabes das coisas que lá aconteceram nestes dias?"

E Ele lhes disse: "Que coisas?" Então lhe disseram: "As coisas a respeito de Jesus de Nazaré, que foi um Profeta poderoso em obras e palavras diante de Deus e de todo o povo,

e como os principais sacerdotes e nossos governantes o entregaram para ser condenado à morte, e o crucificaram.

Mas nós esperávamos que fosse ele quem redimisse Israel. Na verdade, além de tudo isso, hoje é o terceiro dia desde que essas coisas aconteceram.

Sim, e algumas mulheres do nosso grupo, que foram ao túmulo de madrugada, nos surpreenderam.

Quando não encontraram o corpo dele, voltaram dizendo que também tinham visto uma visão de anjos que disseram que ele estava vivo.

E alguns dos que estavam connosco foram ao túmulo e encontraram tudo como as mulheres haviam dito; mas a ele não o viram.

Então ele lhes disse: "Ó insensatos, e tardos de coração para crer em tudo o que os profetas disseram!

Não era necessário que o Cristo sofresse essas coisas e entrasse em sua glória?

E começando por Moisés e todos os Profetas, explicou-lhes em todas as Escrituras as coisas a respeito dele mesmo.

E chegaram à aldeia para onde iam, e ele fez como se fosse mais longe.

Mas eles o constrangeram, dizendo: "Fica connosco, pois está tarde, e o dia já declinou." E entrou para ficar com eles.

E aconteceu que, quando estava à mesa com eles, tomou o pão, abençoou-o, e partiu-o, e lhes deu.

Então, os olhos deles foram abertos e o reconheceram; e ele desapareceu de sua vista.

E disseram um ao outro: "Não ardia em nós o coração enquanto ele nos falava pelo caminho, e nos abria as Escrituras?"

Levantaram-se naquela mesma hora e voltaram para Jerusalém, e encontraram os onze e os que estavam com eles reunidos,

dizendo: "O Senhor realmente ressuscitou e apareceu a Simão!"

E contaram as coisas que haviam acontecido pelo caminho, e como ele foi conhecido por eles na fração do pão.

⁵	Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

And the servant said, 'Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.'

Then the master said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

'For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.' "

Assim, o servo voltou e relatou essas coisas ao seu senhor. Então o dono da casa, irado, disse ao seu servo: 'Sai depressa para as ruas e becos da cidade e traz aqui os pobres, aleijados, cegos e coxos.'

E o servo disse: 'Senhor, está feito como ordenaste, e ainda há lugar.'

Então o senhor disse ao servo: 'Sai pelos caminhos e atalhos e obriga-os a entrar, para que a minha casa fique cheia.

Pois eu vos digo que nenhum daqueles homens que foram convidados provará do meu banquete.'"
