As the priest does not reside nearby, most weekends there are just Readers´ Services, with the Saturday Vespers normally at about 6pm British Isles (and mainland Portugal and Madeiran) time, except when there is a Liturgy. On weekends when there is a liturgy, the Saturday Vespers is generally at about 5pm. On week days when there is a Vespers it is generally at about 7pm. When there is a Reader´s Service on Sunday morning it generally starts at about 10.30am. When there´s a liturgy, because of the long distance the priest has to travel, it generally starts at about 9am. Reception is generally good, though there can be occasional problems. It should be noted that this transmission is not available if Reader James Gross is away for any reason, if there is no one else in the group present with a smartphone to transmit. Generally, Matthew then substitutes for Reader James Gross. But, he is normally only able to do so for the services on Sunday morning.

Please note that Reader James Gross tends to be away in Serbia, most years, from roughly the beginning to the middle of July until the beginning of September, civil calendar, leaving Matthew to cover for this period.

St. Joseph´s has more than one priest serving most weekends and so always has a full Liturgy. It also sometimes has additional services which St. Michael´s does not have. Live services are on Western Pacific Time and the Livestream will say roughly when they are likely to be streamed live, with the option of receiving a notification. No subtitle option is available when it is being livestreamed, though it is sometimes available on playback after it has been livestreamed, including subtitle options in many languages. Note as well that the original is in English, my native language. My Apple Mac,on which I had Word 2019, with its translation function, is broken and I have been told it will take about a month to repair. This means that I will have to experiment with online translation, or simply translate manually. This will only be into European Portuguese, as there is one member of our church, who has lived in Portugal for 20 years who speaks and reads Portuguese, but not English. I will therefore not be doing an automatic translation into Romanian.

Today we commemorate three very different saints. First, St.Spyridon, who became bishop of Tremithus in Cyprus, after the death of his pious wife.

He did two miracles at the First Ecumenical Synod. First, he took a brick and it dissolved into 3: fire, straw and clay, demonstrating God the Holy Trinity, three united into one. Second, he transformed a snake into a piece of coal, demonstrating God´s power over nature.

He has performed many miracles since. In 1934, the New Calendarist bishop of Larissa spotted an old man sitting outside his cathedral. He said to him in Greek: Καλά χριστούγεννα (kala christougenna) (pronounced kala hreestoogenna (oo as in too): Happy Christmas. No response. He repeated it. The old man replied: “It´s not Christmas today, it´s my feast, Spiridon. You will die if you don´t celebrate it.” The bishop dismissed him as a silly old man,but as he started to celebrate Matins he started to feel unwell, and died before he finished the Liturgy. His relics are completely incorrupt and he is standing up.

St. Finian was an enlightener and teacher in Ireland.

St. Herman of Alaska lived in the forest as a hermit. He was canonised in 1964 and is the patron saint of America.

Hoje comemoramos três santos muito diferentes. Primeiro, Santo Espiridão, que se tornou bispo de Tremetousia em Chipre, após a morte de sua piedosa esposa.

Ele fez dois milagres no Primeiro Sínodo Ecuménico. Primeiro, ele pegou um tijolo e ele se dissolveu em 3: fogo, palha e barro, demonstrando Deus a Santíssima Trindade, três unidos em um. Em segundo lugar, ele transformou uma cobra em um pedaço de carvão, demonstrando o poder de Deus sobre a natureza.
